How to Apply to Master’s and Doctoral Programs in the Department of Nutrition


When to apply
Students may enroll any semester, but anyone wishing to be considered for an assistantship must meet the January 5 deadline to be eligible for consideration for the following academic year. Awards of financial assistance will begin to be announced in early February, with final offers typically announced by late April. Late applications will be considered in case of vacancies. Teaching Assistantships, Research Assistantships, and Graduate Assistantships offer a monthly stipend and tuition is waived for awardees.

How to apply to Master’s and Doctoral Programs in the Department of Nutrition
For the MS programs in Nutrition Science and Public Health Nutrition, and for the Doctoral program, two applications are required. 

For the dual MS-MPH program, three applications are required.

Applicants who will have completed an accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics and who wish to apply to the dietetic internship program must complete an additional application.

The Department of Nutrition application should include:
1. A departmental application form.
2. Graduate rating forms from three professional references, preferably with letters of reference on institutional letterhead paper. Letters and rating forms should be enclosed in sealed envelopes signed across the seal by the letter writer and sent with the departmental application.
3. A copy of official transcripts sent to the Graduate School (see below).
4. GRE scores

The Graduate School at the University of Tennessee application should include:
1.  An online application to the Graduate School at the University of Tennessee.
2.  Original transcripts.
3.  TOEFL scores for international applicants.
4.  An application fee.
