Doctoral Programs
The Ph.D. requires a minimum of 24 hours of dissertation work beyond the requirements for the Master’s degree, in which original research is performed. For the original research, Ph.D. students develop a proposal, conduct the original research project that has been proposed, and document the original research project by the preparation of a written dissertation, which should result in publication of at least one article in a peer-reviewed, scientific journal. The Ph.D. student also performs an oral defense of the dissertation. Ph.D. students perform original research under the direction of their faculty advisor and their doctoral committee. They also undergo a written comprehensive exam on their coursework. The specific requirements for the doctoral degree are detailed in the Graduate Handbook.
